# Hi, we're Fair.xyz!

Welcome!

Welcome to Fair.xyz's docs page! Through this guide we will walk you through some basic NFT/Web3 knowledge, as well as to how to create your Collection on our platform, seamlessly and code-free.

### **What is Fair.xyz?**

Creators should only have to focus on creating - we can take care of the rest.

We’re a one-stop-shop connecting NFT Creators and Collectors in Web3, with the ultimate goal of bringing fairness, consolidation and democratisation to a highly technical and fragmented market.

With Fair.xyz, you can bring your art to the blockchain code-free and in a matter of clicks.

#### Keep it simple

In order to launch your NFT collection with Fair.xyz, you only need two things - your artwork and a crypto wallet (we need to send you the proceeds from your sales somewhere!). Our platform handles everything else - collection homepage, minting integration, smart contract deployment, metadata generation and decentralisation, and much more.

#### We care about your Collectors

Fair.xyz offers a state-of-the-art minting experience from beginning to end. We have built war-ready technology that ensures transaction costs during the sale of your artwork are kept low, no matter how many people are trying to mint. Our smart queueing technology prioritises real collectors and removes malicious actors, scripts and bots, so that your fans get a fair chance at minting.

![](/files/anbNQTTV1ca616F9OmSR)

#### More equity for you

No need to pay devs 20-25% and ridiculous upfront costs. No need to give galleries a 40% cut from your sales. Fair.xyz provides all the infrastructure you need to launch your collection, so you can just focus on the art. And Fair.xyz is **100% for creators**.

#### We make deployment cheap

Gas costs when deploying a collection on Ethereum (Layer 1) can be expensive - we’ve optimised our code so that launching your NFT collection is 10.5x cheaper than any traditional deployment. And if you want to go L2, we’ve made deployment of Polygon lower than it already is - by 22x!

#### **Maintain ownership**

We don’t throw your artwork into a huge Smart Contract full of other people’s work. With Fair.xyz, your artwork remains on your own Smart Contract, both owned and managed solely by you, from deployment to eternity. This means you can unlock a much wider range of features driving true Creator-Collector interactions than in other traditional minting platforms.

#### Discoverability

In an increasingly fragmented and opaque market, finding an audience for your artwork can be challenging, and involves long hours of Twitter and Instagram crawling. Fair.xyz leverages blockchain data and data science to ensure your artwork can be discovered by the right collectors.

#### Your art is here to stay

We decentralise your artwork and metadata so that its longevity never depends on a single server. Decentralised storage means your art lives forever.

# FAQs

FAQs about Fair

**Q. How much do you charge?**

A. [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) is entirely free to use (despite the creator paying small gas fees upon deployment). We take 0% of your primary and secondary sales - that’s all for you!

We only charge a small platform fee for your collectors (0.00087ETH on Ethereum, 2.5 MATIC on Polygon) when they mint.

**Q. Do you support free mints? What proceeds do you take in this case?**

A. Yes, we support free mints. All you have to do is input your price as 0.

**Q. Do I create a smart contract on Fair.xyz or do I need to make one elsewhere?**

A. When you are building out your collection on Fair.xyz, you're actually building out your own Fairxyz smart contract! So there is no need to create one elsewhere.

**Q. Does Fair.xyz own any of my smart contract?**

A. No. The smart contract you create on Fair.xyz is 100% yours.

**Q. Is it possible to transfer ownership of my smart contract?**

A. Yes, this is possible. Please contact us if you wish to transfer the ownership of your collection's smart contract.

**Q. How do I withdraw my funds?**

A. You can withdraw your funds from the 'Contract' tab of your collection within the platform. The contract tab will be available after you deploy your collection. You will see a 'Withdraw' button within that tab.

**Q. Does the gas price change depending on the size of my collection?**

A. No, but it does change depending on how many stages you have in your collection.

**Q. Does Fair.xyz take any of the gas fee I pay when I deploy my contract?**

A. No. Gas fees are transaction fees paid to the blockchain (network) you are deploying on. Fair.xyz takes nothing from this transaction.

**Q. Do you have a limit on how much artwork I can upload?**

A. For Single Artwork (1-of-1s and Editions) sales you can upload up to 1GB per file. For large collections (Drops), we support up to 10,000 files, with one file per art piece, or generative collections of up to 10,000 pieces with a total file size of 10GB.

**Q. How can I create a collection larger than 10,000?**

A. The best way to do this would be to use our Limited Editions technology. You can navigate to this section by building for 'Single Artwork' and setting the edition size to your desired number with a placeholder image. After this, ensure you deploy your contract as an ERC-721 contract. Then, you will be able to change the metadata to your own images.&#x20;

**Q. What files do you support?**&#x20;

A. We support JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG, MOV, MP4, MP3 or GLB files.

**Q. Does your platform support .gifs?**&#x20;

A. Yes, but we do not currently support .gifs in the generative-art feature.

**Q. Are SVG files compatible with Fair.xyz?**

A. Yes.

**Q. Can I upload 3D assets to Fair.xyz?**

A. Yes. You can upload 3D assets for Single Artwork (1-of-1s and Editions) sales.

**Q. Will my artwork be cropped if it is vertical?**

A. When building your minting page, your artwork won’t be cropped out for vertical images unless you use the carousel block. The carousel block only affects how your artwork is displayed on the Fair.xyz collection page, but does not actually affect the art piece in itself or how it is displayed on other platforms.

**Q. How do I list my collection on OpenSea?**

A. Once there is a single mint or airdrop on your collection, it will automatically appear on OpenSea.

**Q. Is it possible to pause my mint?**

A. You can pause your mint or end a sale stage at any time.

**Q. How do I create an Allowlist?**

A. On the schedule tab, you can add 'Conditions to buy', in which you can restrict who can buy during a specific sale stage based on certain criteria, amongst them allowlists. You can learn more about Conditions to buy [here](/tutorials-for-creators/drops-and-airdrops/conditions-to-buy).

**Q. What is the maximum number of wallets for the Allowlist?**

A. The maximum number of wallets is 4,000. You can add them manually by using the text bar in the *Allowlist* tab. If you are managing a large list of wallets you would like to add to your Allowlist access, you can instead upload a *.csv* file with the wallet addresses organised into rows (or columns if you prefer). You do not need a header or anything of the like, just the wallet addresses.

**Q. I hosted a drop with Allowlist and public mint stages but not all of my NFTs were minted in the Allowlist stage. What happens to them?**

A. In this case, the unsold NFTs from the Allowlist simply spill over to the public sale. For example, if you have a collection of 10 pieces with 5 of them allocated to the Allowlist stage and 5 of them allocated to the public stage, but you only sell 2 NFTs on the Allowlist stage, then 8 NFTs will be available on the public stage (5 + 3 rolled over).

**Q. Will having an Allowlist increase the cost of deployment?**

A. No. You are able to upload up to 4,000 wallet addresses to an Allowlist and this will not affect the cost of deployment.&#x20;

**Q. Is it possible to add Allowlist addresses even when my mint goes live?**

A. Yes, you can continue to add Allowlist addresses after your mint goes live. There will not be a gas fee attached to this.

**Q. Can I change information of my drop after I deploy my contract?**

A. Yes, you can still change the price, royalties and maximum mints per wallet, amongst other parameters.

**Q. Can I update the artwork and names of my collection once I have launched?**

A. At the moment, this is not possible.

**Q. Is it possible to postpone sale stages?**

A. You can keep postponing stages virtually indefinitely. As long as a stage has not started, you can postpone it. If a stage has already started, you can only end it and create a new one. You won’t be able to move the start time from the past to the future. If a stage has ended, you can’t update it. Overall, you can update everything about a future stage, or even remove it - but you cannot edit or delete the stage once it has started.

**Q. Is it possible to amend the mint price after my contract is deployed?**

A. Yes, this is possible to do.

**Q. Can I reduce the price of my collection once it has launched?**

A. Yes, you can do it from the ‘Schedule’ tab. Fair.xyz does not take any fees for you making changes to your smart contract, but you will need to pay a small gas (transaction) fee.

**Q. Can I reduce the size of my collection after it’s been deployed?**

A. Unfortunately, after deployment, this is not possible. Collection sizes are final. What you *can* do is limit the number of NFTs on sale and effectively reduce the mintable size of your collection.

**Q. Can I add more pieces to my collection after it’s deployed?**

A. Drops are fixed size collections and as such one cannot add more pieces to a 'Drop' collection after it has been deployed.&#x20;

On the other hand, when a 1/1 or Editions piece is created, you are also creating a collection, which is where your piece lives. So while you are not able to increase the supply of the initial piece, you can create another new piece that is added to the same collection - an option that will be presented to you before you deploy.

**Q. Is it possible to change the metadata after the mint?**

A. Please contact us if you wish to change the metadata in your collection after deployment.

**Q. How would someone change their launch date for their upcoming collection?**

A. Before deploying the contract, you can set this on the details tab under 'Schedule'. If you have already deployed the contract and it is before the upcoming launch date, you can change the date by finding your collection in 'Your Collections' and pressing 'Edit Collection'. If your sale has already opened, you will not be able to change the launch date, but you will be able to end the sale and restart it at a later time.

**Q. Is it possible to mint directly from the** [**Fair.xyz**](http://fair.xyz/) **contracts?**

A. No. All of our contracts are signature gated, meaning contract minting is not directly available. However, there is an option for the owner to remove the signature requirement from the smart contract, which would make contract minting possible. Please reach out if you’d like guidance as to how to do this.

**Q. Do you have a burn mechanism?**

A. All contracts deployed on [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) have a pre-built burn mechanism if you desire to create burn-to-redeem experiences, or anything of the like. However, we do not currently support burning at a platform level. For now, you can currently use the ‘toggleBurnable’ function on the contract to enable burning which will allow token holders or approved addresses to burn their tokens.

**Q. I want to offer a certain amount of mints for free, then the rest at a price I set. Is this possible?**

A. Yes, this is possible. You can create a multi-stage drop and allocate however many NFTs you’d like for free, and then adjust the price accordingly for the second drop.

**Q. Can I randomise my minting order?**

A. The mint order is automatically randomised for you.

**Q. How do people mint my collection once it’s public?**

A. Every collection automatically receives a minting page that is fully customisable. Once this is generated, you can use it however you like. Email it to friends, post it on Twitter, shill it in Discord - the choice is yours!

**Q. How do I create my bespoke minting page?**

A. While you're going through the motions of uploading your artwork, putting in your collection details, etc. you're actually building the mint page itself. Once you press ‘Save Changes’ on the ‘Details’ tab of your collection, you should be able to preview your collection page by clicking ‘Preview Page’.

**Q. How do I preview my minting page?**

A. If you are building a collection, you'll be able to see the progress of your mint page while building. Once you press ‘Save Changes’ on the ‘Details’ tab of your collection, you should be able to preview your collection page by clicking ‘Preview Page’. If you are building a 1/1 minting page, the look of your work will be displayed on the right hand side while you build.

**Q. Can I change the link of my customised mint page to a domain I own?**

A. No, unfortunately you can only edit the subdomain of your [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) mint page.

**Q. I removed my maximum mints per wallet, but this information has not been reflected on the drop page. What am I doing wrong?**

A. Make sure you change the max mints per wallet at a collection level ***and*** stage level. You can go to the schedule tab and edit the current stage to ensure the wallet minting limit is set to ‘no limit’.

**Q. Is my supply of NFTs public to collectors during mint?**

A. Users will be able to follow the mint schedule on the minting page, which displays characteristics like date, time, price, collection size, as well as a minting progress bar. You are able to limit the number of NFTs on sale at any given time so that you can retain full control over exactly how you sell your collection.

**Q. Do I need to go through a KYC process to use your platform?**

A. No. You do not have to go through KYC *unless* you would like to enable credit card payments.&#x20;

**Q. I am having issues with the KYC verification step.**

A. We verify all the creators on the platform to ensure that everyone launching a collection on [Fair.xyz](http://fair.xyz/) is a real person. If you are having issues with verification, you should have received an email from our provider explaining what is wrong. The most common errors include your ID being expired or the picture not fulfilling proper guidelines. However, if you are still encountering issues please email us at <help@fair.xyz> or raise a ticket on our Discord, and we’ll be more than happy to help.

**Q. Can I launch more than one collection from my wallet? How will this affect the KYC process?**

A. You can launch multiple collections with the same wallet, so you do not have to go through KYC again. But if for any reason you want to use a different wallet, yes, you'll have to do KYC again for that new account.

**Q. I have paid for more NFTs than a collection’s maximum mint per wallet. Have I been charged?**

A. You automatically receive a refund for the excess mints if there is a mint limit you have exceeded. The collector will always be charged fairly and pay for however many NFTs they received. For example, if the collector tries to mint and pays for 3 NFTs but there are only 2 left, they will receive 2 NFTs as well as a refund for the third in the same transaction.

**Q. Can I use a tablet, phone or iPad to upload images to Fair.xyz?**

A. Whilst some of our creators launch their collections using a tablet, we highly recommend using a desktop for the best user experience.

**Q. Will the ‘filename’ that I put in the metadata sheet be shown on OpenSea for a specific NFT or is it just the ‘Name’ that will be shown?**

A. The ‘Name’ will appear. If you do not include a ‘Name’ column, we will automatically remove the extension so that it does not show up on OpenSea.

**Q. What does enforcing royalties mean?**

A. Enforcing royalties ensures that only royalty-compliant marketplaces can trade your collection. If a marketplace does not pay out creator royalties it will not be enabled to trade your collection’s NFTs.

**Q. Am I able to impose creator royalties on every marketplace that trades my collection, or do I individually talk with those marketplaces?**

A. When you deploy your collection, you will be able to decide if you'd like to impose creator royalties or not.

**Q.When I launch a collection with the royalty percentage set on Fair.xyz, will this reflect on OpenSea and X2Y2 straight away? How about Blur?**

A. Our contracts are ERC2981-compliant, meaning royalty information should automatically reflect on OpenSea and X2Y2. It will reflect on Blur depending on how the buyer is purchasing. However, we strongly recommend manually verifying with each marketplace that your collection’s royalties are correctly picked up once the mint goes live.

**Q. Why isn’t my collection showing up on marketplaces like LooksRare or Blur?**

A. We automatically disable marketplaces that do not enforce royalties. You can always disable this option, but keep in mind that marketplaces that do enforce royalties (e.g. OpenSea) will stop paying you royalties!

**Q. Can I use your platform for airdrops?**

A. Yes, with 'Drops' you can use the *'Airdrop'* tab for your collection as a way of sending free NFTs to your collectors, your team or yourself. With Editions and 1-of-1s, airdrops can be done from the 'Contract' tab. You can airdrop up to 20 wallets at once. Please note, for airdrop-only collections, there is no minting page.

**Q. In the airdrop phase, can I decide which specific NFTs to send?**

A. Not at this point. Unfortunately, one of the down sides of batch minting is that you cannot select specific NFTs.

**Q. How many NFTs can I airdrop to someone?**

A. At the moment, you can only airdrop 20 per wallet in a single transaction, but you should be able to airdrop to the same address multiple times.

**Q. Can I create a reveal experience for airdrop-only collections?**

A. Yes, you can. This will be indicated in the “Launch Details” section when you are building your collection.

**Q. Will I be able to design a mint page for my airdrop?**

A. No, mint pages are not necessary for airdrops, and therefore you will not receive one. All actions can be performed by you in the Creator UI.

**Q. Why has my art not been revealed on the day that I scheduled?**

A. When you insert your reveal date, it is simply for collectors to know. You still have to manually reveal your art by going to the platform on your desired date and clicking ‘Reveal Now’ on the contract tab.

**Q. My wallet was banned and my collection is now removed from OpenSea. Is it possible to transfer my collection to a new owner's wallet?**

A. Unfortunately, if OpenSea has banned your collection, there is nothing we can do.

**Q. I deployed a contract on a different website to Fair.xyz. Can I still use your minting function?**

A. No. You will only be given a minting page if you build your contract on Fair.xyz.

**Q. People are unable to mint the maximum mint I’ve set on my collection. What’s going on?**

A. There are two types of maximum mints per wallet. First, there is a ‘global limit,’ which is set on the Details/Contract tab. This is a limit on the number of mints across **aggregated across all stages**. The second one is a ‘stage level limit’, which is the number of NFTs a wallet can mint in a specific stage. Whilst you were correctly modifying the global max mints per wallet, chances are you still had a stage level max mint per wallet.

**Q. If I don’t get anyone minting my contract, is there an option to cancel, delete or burn the contract?**

A. Unfortunately, once a collection is deployed it cannot be deleted/erased. This is the case across all platforms. However, the artwork in the collection will remain unminted and thus invisible across marketplaces.

**Q. Does** [**Fair.xyz**](http://fair.xyz/) **support auctions?**

A. Not at the moment, but this feature will be rolled out eventually.

**Q. I want to do a 3000 items generative collection on Fair.xyz. Can I reserve a part of the supply (say 500 NFTs) for myself?**

A. Yes. There are 2 ways to do this: Option 1: Airdrop 500 NFTs to yourself through the 'Airdrop' tab as soon as you deploy the contract and before the sale goes live. Option 2: use a multi-date drop, and set the final stage to be very far into the future, with 500 NFTs and Allowlist-only. If you set only yourself to the Allowlist, only you will be able to mint/allocate those. You can always airdrop them before the date you set on that stage and close out the sale.

**Q. I want to create a 10k collection with the generative art tool that also includes some 1/1s. Is this possible?**

A. Yes, this is possible. We recommend creating a layer called 'One-Of-One' which includes your 1/1 pieces. Then, make the rarity of that layer 0% from the 'Rarities' tab, and then when you arrive to the final screen you can manually edit those 1/1 NFTs from the generated ones. Simply add the layer 'One-Of-One' and select the 1/1 you want that NFT to be, and delete all other layers. We're adding some simplification to this flow soon so that you can manually upload 1-of-1 images!

**Note:** Your minting order will be in the order that the images appear on the UI, so make sure to distribute your 1-of-1s across the collection!

# What is blockchain?

Discover what the blockchain really is

Blockchain has developed a reputation as one of the many elusive Web 3.0 terms that people out of the loop can’t quite wrap their head around. Does anyone *actually* know what mining crypto means? Demystifying the NFT space means understanding terms like blockchain.

### **Immutability**

At its root, a blockchain is a system used to record transactions (for example, buying cryptocurrency on an exchange). Think of it as a bank statement that doesn't just log and display your transactions, but also everyone else's, and anyone can see that information.&#x20;

The transactions are validated or confirmed to be correct by computers on the network called *validators*, or *miners*. Continuing from the bank statement analogy, as a validator you could check that, for example, an account isn't trying to send more money than they have in their account. You would do something like this:

* Check all the past transactions of that user. If in its lifetime that account has received $20, paid $10, received $50 and paid $5, you can calculate that they now own exactly $55
* If they are trying to send $55 or less - great! You validate the transaction. Otherwise, you reject it.&#x20;

This application is one of the reasons Blockchain is considered to be such a transparent and robust system. Validation is done through a voting system between all validators, and *anyone* can become a validator. It'd be very difficult or almost impossible to falsify, attack or mutate the data in the system, because you'd need a lot of validators (over 50% of the whole network) to "agree" with your transaction.

![](/files/MkItRpRVq9Dqft3L0UX0)

{% hint style="info" %}
Because *validating* a transaction on the blockchain is something which requires computational power, you need to incentivise miners with a fee for the electricity required to validate your transaction. This is usually referred to as the **gas fee**.
{% endhint %}

With every transaction, a new ‘block’ of data is added to the ‘chain’. This new block of data is connected to previous blocks and will be connected to blocks made from future transactions. These blocks include information such as who made the transaction, where and when it was made and how it was made. When a new block is added to a chain and linked with a block from a previous transaction, it can’t be tampered with - this is **immutability**. This gives blockchain technology a key advantage: with the addition of every new block, the verification of the entire blockchain is strengthened, as there is more data to validate on.

As Web3.0 marches forward and NFTs continue to rise in popularity, blockchain technology enables true ownership. Any given token, whether it’s a photograph, video, song, film script or signature can only be owned by one person at a time. No two NFTs are digitally the same, and their unique identifier (such as the smart contract hosting their data) can be traced using blockchain technology. Its decentralised nature means anyone can verify ownership of an asset without relying on a single centralised governing body. In doing so, it removes the need for third parties auditing and recording the ownership trail.

# What is an NFT?

Information about what an NFT is

{% hint style="info" %}
**Interesting fact:** *NFT* was the Collins Dictionary’s word of the year in 2021.
{% endhint %}

### **Non-Fungible Tokens**

There’s a lot of technical terms and jargon to cut through, so let's first look at the term *non-fungible*. A *fungible* good can be exchanged for another of the same value/type. For example, if I have a regular $1 bill, it can be exchanged for another regular $1 bill, as they have identical value. A *non-fungible* good is, of course, the opposite. If Danny DeVito signs and dates a $1 bill - it becomes unique (non-fungible) and can be easily differentiated from regular $1 bills - they would not be equivalent in value.

Now let's look at the term *token*. In the context of NFTs and blockchain, a token is a unique record of data that lives on a smart contract ([what is a smart contract?](/nft-fundamentals/what-is-a-smart-contract)), which can be interacted with and tracked through the blockchain. Given that the blockchain acts as a ledger for all transactions occurring within it, one can always trace the owner and creator of an NFT by looking at the history of transactions. This provides an extremely powerful tool for ease of tracking ownership over digital assets.

![](/files/GGO1vnBBNOxjiLfw3wDq)

### Why do NFTs matter?

Through NFTs, Artists and Creators gain a greater level of autonomy over their work. If, for example, a photographer wants to create an NFT, their digital artwork (a photograph) will be ‘minted’, and due to the blockchain-based record of ownership, each transaction of that artwork will be recorded and traceable back to the original photographer, who can also can set royalties of future sales. The provenance, traceability and openness of NFTs make them important tools for Creators.

For Collectors, NFTs enable access to truly decentralised and open ownership of new assets, and token-gated experiences which can drive exclusive and meaningful interactions which enhance the Creator-Collector experience.

### **Ownership and Intellectual Property**

Ownership and intellectual property rights are often, incorrectly, used interchangeably in the context of NFTs.

![](/files/CTzIrg7mNgioy2Jas5Ns)

**Ownership**

If you’re the owner of a piece of artwork, there is no better use than blockchain to prove ownership and provenance. The records on the ledger of transactions provide provenance and traceability, proving that you are the true and original owner of the art piece. If they’re unable to prove they’re the owner of the artwork through publicly accessible blockchain, a potential replica is worthless.

**Intellectual Property**

Owning an NFT does not always mean you own the copyright rights - unless specifically stated by the owner of the smart contract/collection, the artist will retain the copyright.

# What is a Smart Contract?

Information about what an Smart Contract is

Smart contracts are an integral part of NFT infrastructure - without them NFTs cannot operate. They are made up of code that allow the storage and display of information, visible to anyone. This information is immutable due to the nature of [blockchain](/nft-fundamentals/what-is-blockchain) networks, meaning it can’t be changed. If a smart contract is published containing code errors, it will remain that way forever. Smart contracts are used to determine certain actions, such as verifying ownership, showing token *metadata*, and enabling and recording transfer. They can also be extended to handle other useful and relevant use cases, such as royalty payments for an artist in future sales of an NFT.

![](/files/5rhfoQML9PNEw4aivZv3)

{% hint style="danger" %}
The **metadata** of an NFT describes and gives information about the NFT.
{% endhint %}

### Smart contract standards

The code in a smart contract determines the characteristics of the NFT and the way in which its data is displayed. Smart contracts tend to follow *standards*. In Ethereum, the primary standards for NFT smart contracts are ERC-1155 and ERC-721. In its simplest form, ERC-1155 is generally used for contracts with many non-divisible tokens with the same underlying metadata (think of a concert ticket or a library pass - they are unique and you cannot own 'half' a ticket, they are non-divisible; [example](https://opensea.io/assets/0xd0b53410454370a482979c0adaf3667c6308a801/0)). ERC-721 is generally used for non-divisible tokens, all of which have different metadata ([example](https://opensea.io/collection/boredapeyachtclub)) whilst living in the same contract (think of individual players within a football team).

# Setting up your wallet

A short guide to get you trading in no time.

Wallets.&#x20;

Not that chunky piece of leather which used to hang out your bum pocket. The days of crumpled receipts and dirty coins are beyond us.

#### Welcome Cryptocurrency Wallet!&#x20;

The golden ticket to enter everything in Web3 - feel free to bring Grandpa Joe. Fair.xyz operates on the Ethereum network. To engage with our site, you will need to set up a cryptocurrency wallet (if you don't already have one).

![](/files/poa3Q30iT2r9KPTWJBqj)

#### What's the best wallet to have?

Just like a physical wallet, some brands are better than others. There are two type of wallets that you can use; hot and cold.&#x20;

A **hot** wallet is stored digitally, and is accessible with an internet connection. Whilst hot wallets provide quick transactions with little verification or user friction, they are exposed and prone to getting scammed, phished or hacked.&#x20;

A **cold** wallet is a physical item that holds all your funds offline. Having all your information stored offline means maximum security, and all only at the expense of some technical legwork.&#x20;

**Setting up a hot wallet**

* [MetaMask](https://metamask.io/faqs/)
* [Coinbase Wallet](https://www.coinbase.com/wallet/getting-started-extension)

**Cold wallets**

* [Trezor](https://shop.trezor.io/product/trezor-one-white?h=676f6f676c652e636f6d)

If this is all a little confusing, here's a table with an overview of each.

<table><thead><tr><th align="center">Hot Wallet </th><th align="center">Cold Wallet</th><th data-hidden>DELETE</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td align="center">Online <strong>🖥</strong></td><td align="center">Offline <strong>🖫</strong></td><td></td></tr><tr><td align="center">Easily accessible <strong>📱</strong></td><td align="center">Requires device <strong>📵</strong></td><td></td></tr><tr><td align="center">Quick transactions <strong>⛓</strong></td><td align="center">Slower transactions<strong>🏃</strong></td><td></td></tr><tr><td align="center">Fear of hackers <strong>🔓</strong></td><td align="center">Tight security <strong>🔑</strong></td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

We strongly recommend you acquire a **cold wallet** as the best way to hold all your blockchain assets, due to its enhanced safety.

#### Security advice

Security. We know no one enjoys doing this, but when your NFTs are sorting your pension, it's best to keep to the smartest practices.&#x20;

Here are some top hints from the team at Fair.xyz:

* Never ever ever ever give out your 12-24 word seed phrase or mnemonic, not even if someone from Fair.xyz support asks you for it. Keep your seed phrase or mnemonic offline and stored safely where only you can access it
* Use the most memorable yet complex passwords/pins you can for both your cold and hot wallets in case your physical devices ever fall into the wrong hands
* Try your best to avoid visiting sites without safety ticks
* Do not sign messages on your wallet from untrusted or suspicious websites
* If you're using a hot wallet, make sure you lock it on your browser when you're finished using it
* The more funds you're storing/accessing, the more you may look into using a VPN (virtual private network), this will make all your internet activity far safer.

#### **Congrats** :tada:

You're up and running - now get creating and get collecting!&#x20;

# Create your Collection - Introduction

Create your collection on Fair.xyz today

The [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) Creator Interface is built to allow for the most seamless, simple and code-free experience for Creators. In the following tutorial, we will go through the steps required to build an end-to-end collection through the [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) platform - from artwork generation to smart contract and minting site deployment, and everything in-between!

![](/files/lE58wsVo0o5tsFnz1tb0)

**What do I need to launch my own collection?**

* A wallet (with just a little bit of funds in it to pay gas fees - [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) does not take any upfront costs) - you can learn more about wallets and how to set one up [here](/nft-fundamentals/setting-up-your-wallet)
* Artwork, or layers to generate your artwork
* 5-10 minutes of your time (that’s how long it should take to launch your collection if you have all the collection information ready to go!)

{% hint style="info" %}
The gas cost of launching an NFT collection with [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) is anywhere between 10-22x cheaper (depending on which blockchain you’re launching on) than traditional deployments
{% endhint %}

We've also prepared a video walkthrough so that you can easily follow how to launch your own collection with Fair.xyz:

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmByPumIBbA>" %}

If you are ready with the above - great! It’s time to build. Let's dive right in:

* Step 1: [Accessing the Creator Interface](/tutorials-for-creators/accessing-the-creator-interface)
* Step 2: [Creator Dashboard](/tutorials-for-creators/creator-dashboard)
* Step 3: [Building your Collection](/tutorials-for-creators/drops-and-airdrops)
* Step 4: [Deployment](/tutorials-for-creators/drops-and-airdrops/deployment)
* Step 5: [Managing your collection](/tutorials-for-creators/managing-your-collection)

# Accessing the Creator Interface

The Creator Interface can be found at: https\://fair.xyz/

Because we’re a Web3 platform, access is not done through the traditional username/password format - instead, all you need is a wallet! You can see a step-by-step tutorial of how to create your first Wallet [here](/nft-fundamentals/setting-up-your-wallet). We will still need an email further down the line - we do this to directly communicate with you in case we have any questions/inquiries!

Once your wallet is all set-up on your web browser, click the ‘Connect your wallet’ button on the top right of the Creator Interface landing page. Follow the steps to connect your wallet using your wallet provider - you will then be prompted to sign a message like the one below:

&#x20;

![](/files/kPRlPnOnAgEhgBCQcDML)

Message signing is the best way for us to verify that it is indeed you accessing your dashboard in the Creator Interface, and no one else! Once you have signed your message, you will be able to register yourself and access the Creator Interface.

# Creator Dashboard

The Creator Dashboard can be found at https\://fair.xyz/dashboard

![](/files/6cQkWiNEWNQzH1y9XvmW)

Once you have successfully entered the Creator App, you will be able to view the Creator dashboard. This dashboard provides a high level overview of your Collections, including some top-line statistics about your collection sales. It also allows you to edit your Creator profile by clicking on ‘Profile’. Whenever you are ready to build your first collection, click ‘Create A New Collection’.

# Building your Collection

You can add a new collection by accessing https\://fair.xyz/dashboard/collection/add

In this section you will be defining the general details of your Collection, which will build the content and details of your Collection page and smart contract.

When clicking 'Create a new collection' on the Creator Dashboard, you will be prompted to choose one of three options:

* **Single Artwork:** upload a single piece of artwork and sell it as a 1-of-1, limited edition (many copies/prints of the same art piece), or Open Edition (unlimited copies/prints of the same art piece).
* **Drop:** sell many pieces of artwork in a single sale
* **Pure Airdrop:** this option is suitable for creators who do not wish to conduct a public sale but rather want to send freebie NFTs to a set of users. Airdrop collections do not have a public collection page.

Use the following links to continue according to the drop format you choose:

* [Single Artwork](/tutorials-for-creators/single-artwork)
* [Drops and Airdrops](/tutorials-for-creators/drops-and-airdrops)

# Single Artwork

1/1, Limited Editions, and Open Editions

We're excited to see the art you'll be launching on Fair.xyz! Check out the next few pages to learn how to launch 1/1, Limited Editions, and Open Editions.

# Artwork Page

Upload your Artwork

Welcome to the first step of launching your digital artwork! In this tab, you will only need to upload your artwork and give some basic information about it. You will find the following page:

<figure><img src="/files/zxBVoXeM8QOOGIcRDL9q" alt=""><figcaption><p>Artwork tab</p></figcaption></figure>

* **Artwork:** upload your artwork by dragging and dropping the file on the box or clicking on it. The supported media types are: JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG, MOV, MP4, MP3 or GLB files. You can upload up to 1GB.
  * Note: If you upload a non-static asset (MOV, MP4, MP3 or GLB file), you will be asked to upload a "**Preview Image**". This will be used for the card display of your artwork in your collection page, where only static assets are displayed.
* **Artwork Name:** give a name to your artwork. This is the name that will appear in all marketplaces. For instance, if you give the name "*The Penrose Hotel*", it will appear as follows:

<figure><img src="/files/mYG74Qg9La1eRKrej7Yg" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Artwork Short Description:** give a short description of the artwork, which will appear at your "Claim Page". This page is where collectors will arrive to collect your digital asset. You will finish designing this page in the "Page" tab.

#### Advanced Settings

Click on "View Advanced Settings" to add metadata to your artwork. You will be able to add a "Property" and a "Value". For example a property could be "Technique" and a value could be "One-line Drawing". These are more commonly known as "Traits", which better define the properties of your artwork. For example, if you are uploading an oil painting to sell as digital artwork, you could include this information as part of your artwork's traits. This would look as follows on marketplaces under the "Traits" section:

<figure><img src="/files/Moi68LU6HBUfHNADS1bh" alt=""><figcaption><p>How metadata shows on marketplaces</p></figcaption></figure>

# Details

After uploading your artwork, you'll be brought to the "Details" page, which is an essential step in your building journey.

## Getting Started

Here, you'll decide how you'd like your artwork to be bought. You'll be able to choose from three different options: a 1/1, limited edition or an open edition.

<figure><img src="/files/2GG4C3x2PtaGvviBpLBR" alt="" width="532"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### 1/1

By choosing to create a 1/1 ("one of one") piece, you will create only a **single copy** of the artwork.

#### Limited Edition

By choosing *Limited Edition*, you will be able to limit the number of copies available of this artwork. You can choose any number between 1-999,999,999.

#### Open Edition

By choosing *Open Edition*, there will be no limit to the total number of copies available. Typically, this is combined with a restricted time period.

### Sale Structure

After choosing your desired type of artwork, you will be prompted to build out your sale structure. You can add various different stages of sale, including their relevant title, start & end date, maximum mints per wallet and price.

<figure><img src="/files/ZYuTnKF0aTKZfULM6Y2F" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Stage Name

Here, you can name your stage. This will be shown on your final minting page.

#### Start & End Time

Here, you can choose what day and time your stage starts and finishes.

#### Max Mints Per Wallet

Here, you can put a limit on how many NFTs a single wallet can mint during this stage. The default is 'Unlimited'.

#### Price

This is where you can input the price of your NFT. If you'd like your piece to be free, simply input 0 for price.

### Advanced Settings

When you click on 'Advanced Settings' you will be given further options to add to your mint.

<figure><img src="/files/oPyvQMcDqcyARtOwF64S" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Maximum Mints Per Wallet

Here you can create a limit on how many NFTs a wallet can mint. If left blank, this will default to 'Unlimited'.

#### Allow Assets to Be Transferable

Here, you can decide if you want to create a Soulbound Token (meaning it cannot leave the wallet that mints it and will never be transferable). If you want a Soulbound Token, toggle to 'No,' meaning the NFT will not be transferable. The default setting is 'Yes'.

#### Delayed Artwork Reveal

If you'd like to delay the reveal of your artwork, you may do so. A placeholder that you provide will be shown in the interim. Please note, you will have to manually reveal your art on the day you decide. It is not done automatically.

# Page

This is the "Claim Page" where collectors will arrive

The information you add in this tab will be added to the claim page. This is the page where your collectors will arrive and where they will collect your NFTs.

* **Edition Subdomain**: this is the unique subdomain users will be accessing within the [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) website to access your claim page.
* **Artwork Long Description:** you can add here a more comprehensive description of your artwork and project.
* **Tags:** Here you can add a selection of words which help categorise your collection. Some examples are: photography, comics, sport, paintings, digital assets, ... This will help your art get discovered if people search for your tags!
* **Artist Name:** input the name you'd like to be shown in the claim page as the Artist of this edition.
* **Artist Image:** upload here a profile picture for the artist
* **Artist Twitter:** connect your Twitter account where people can contact you or find out the latest updates about your project.

#### Advanced Settings

When clicking on "Advanced Settings" you will find the following:

<figure><img src="/files/22TCVGPrKjXTRn2Uk0u6" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Artist Website:** add a website where people can learn more about you. This can be a simple Linktree or a more sophisticated website.&#x20;
* **Instagram:** add your Instagram handle.
* **Discord:** add the invitation link to your Discord server.

# Conditions

Conditions to Buy enables users to create minting requirements for collectors.

### What is Conditions to Buy?

'Conditions to Buy' is a product unique to Fair.xyz. It was created by our engineers so creators can have full control over their sale. Here, you'll be able to combine as many requirements as you like, in whichever way you like, in order to ensure specific requirements are met before someone can mint your artwork piece. For example, you may require that before a collector mints your artwork, they follow you on Twitter first.

#### Getting Started

After filling out the *Artwork, Details* and *Page* tabs, you will be brought to page called *Conditions*. Here, you can browse through various conditions to choose from, which include Passcodes, NFT Ownership, Customised Allowlsit, Twitter Conditions and other inventive conditions to buy.

<figure><img src="/files/xTn0eaiMyzySMkgOQNgS" alt="" width="352"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can scroll through the list of Conditions to Buy, which include Passcodes, NFT Ownership, Customised Allowlists, Twitter Conditions and other inventive minting mechanisms.&#x20;

After choosing a Condition to Buy, you will be brought through a pop-out where you can fill out the relevant information needed.

<figure><img src="/files/7n0FwHsSTkn95l2dVf6V" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can create various conditions and combine them using 'and' or 'or' rules. By selecting conditions within the same block, you will create an 'and' rule, meaning collectors will have to meet ALL the requirements inside that block. By creating conditions in different blocks, you will create an 'or' rule, meaning collectors will need to satisfy the requirements across either of the blocks.

<figure><img src="/files/tVtxqJwVsZTsg6PBn5ut" alt="" width="349"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

These conditions will be visible on your minting page when collectors try to mint. If they do not meet the minting requirements, they will be informed. If they do, they'll be able to mint.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you have multiple stages in your sale, then you will see an option to edit your Conditions to Buy per stage at the top of the page, under the drop down labelled 'Stage'.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/rQjyay83Xo8HttV82wOQ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Deploy

The 'Deploy' tab is used to finalise and deploy your artwork, so that it is ready to sell

Before finalising the preparation for your artwork sale, you must first create a collection that can host it. You will be able to add more artwork pieces to this collection further down the line.

At the top of the page you will see a 'Select a Collection' dropdown, which will allow you to either create a new collection that will host your artwork, or select a collection you had previously created and add your artwork to it.

<figure><img src="/files/0RbF4WXLrZ0XYLWTUZdp" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note:** if there is any missing information on your artwork piece, you will not be able to click on the 'Select a Collection' dropdown. Hover over the button to see what section is yet to be completed for your artwork.
{% endhint %}

#### Creating a new collection

If you decide to create a new collection, you will be prompted with the following modal:

<figure><img src="/files/cq0gbGIvH5Ec5OZRyQ8m" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Collection Name

Your collection does not have to have the same name as your artwork. Keep in mind that you will be able to add more artwork pieces to this collection in the future, so use a name that you think can encompass all the art you will be putting under this collection. You **will not** be able to edit this after deployment.

#### Collection Description

As it reads on the tin - describe your collection for collectors to see! You **will** be able to edit this after deployment.

**Collection Royalties**

Because your artwork is sold as an NFT, you will be able to collect royalties as a commission for secondary sales of your artwork across marketplaces. For example, if your royalties are 5%, you will be paid $5 for every $100 of your art that is sold. Royalties are deposited directly in your wallet.

If you click on **VIEW ADVANCED SETTINGS** you will be able to further customise your Collection:

<figure><img src="/files/Yu2EUyGLQzkONjzCrTis" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Collection Logo**

Add a logo to best represent your collection, with ideal size 400x800.

**Collection Symbol**

This is what is more commonly known as a 'TICKER', usually an abbreviation of your collection name.

**Block Non-Royalty Compliant Marketplaces**

Certain marketplaces do not enforce royalties for artists and creators. Our collections are built to block them by default. However, you can choose to enable royalty-free trading by toggling the button to 'NO'. Note that you will receive little to no royalties if you select this option.

**Collection Contract Type**

Your collection contract type can be 'ERC1155' or 'ERC721'. ERC721 is the most popular form, as it allows for the artwork inside your contract to have individual serial numbers when you sell them as editions. ERC1155, on the other hand, is slightly more optimised from a network cost perspective as it does not serialise your artwork upon sale. It is also more beneficial for NFTs with future mechanics such as a burn-to-redeem mechanism.

# Drops and Airdrops

Everything about Drops and Airdrops on Fair.xyz

{% hint style="info" %}
You can always save your progress when going through the Collection page by clicking ‘Save as Draft’
{% endhint %}

The next prompt involves choosing which type of artwork you'd like to upload to your collection:

* **Upload your complete collection:** this option is suitable if you have your full artwork ready to go&#x20;
* **Build your collection using layers:** Fair.xyz supports generative collections which are created through programmatic combination of layers/traits. If you'd like to create a generative collection by uploading your layers/traits, this is your best option!

You are now ready to proceed to the next steps:

# Collection Details

The Collection Details page on Fair.xyz

In this section you will be defining the general details of your Collection, which will build the content and details of your Collection page and smart contract. Please note if you are building an 'Airdrop' collection most of the fields below won't be present in your Details page, as you will not be creating a collection page.

### **Collection Details**

<figure><img src="/files/j4WjOREAu69ubh2ZfkyR" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Collection Name and Ticker:** give your Collection Name the name you desire! The Collection Ticker is generally an abbreviated (6 characters max) version of your Collection Name, similar to a ticker in the stock market (e.g. MSFT for Microsoft). When someone looks up your collection on an explorer, such as Etherscan.io, they will view both of these.&#x20;
* **Collection Subdomain:** this is the unique subdomain users will be accessing within the [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) website to access, for example, your Collection page and minting site. If, for example, you set your Collection Subdomain to “FairDrop”, your collection site will be found at [*https://fair.xyz/collection/FairDrop*](https://fair.xyz/collection/FairDrop)

### Launch details

<figure><img src="/files/c0xged6KHWLMSctfwugP" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Choose your Blockchain:** Ethereum (the most popular, but with higher transaction costs) vs Polygon (near-to-free and environmentally friendly; *coming soon*). Most collections you have heard of were probably launched on Ethereum. With this in mind, [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) has done some coding wizardry to make Ethereum deployments and minting significantly cheaper 🧙🏼‍♂️

#### Advanced Settings

*You can find the advanced settings for your collection in the 'Launch Details' box by clicking on 'Show Advanced Settings'*

* **Max mints per wallet:** you may want to limit the amount of individual NFTs each collector can buy - max mints per wallet sets the cap for this number of mints.
* **Royalties/Creator Fees:** some marketplaces support contract-native Royalty distribution to you as a Creator. If that is the case, this is the percentage of any secondary sales you will receive! The usual range is 2.5-10% (royalties higher than that are very rare, and some marketplaces may not even support them!)
* **Reveal Experience:** you can make your artwork instant or delayed. If instant - the artwork of your collection will be made immediately available to your collectors after you deploy your collection, including before any mints take place. Some Creators prefer to delay the reveal of their artwork to a few days after their collection first goes on sale, and show a placeholder image in the meantime instead - [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) will handle that for you. Simply upload a placeholder image and tell your collectors when the reveal will take place! And if you ever change your mind after deployment and want to change your artwork reveal date, or reveal it instantly - that’s absolutely fine, you’ll be able to do that too. Please note that the reveal is not automatically handled by the platform. On the day of the reveal, you will have to click on ‘Reveal Now’ on the contract tab.
* **SBTs & Transferable NFTs:** If you want to make your NFT collection non-transferable (Soulbound), you should click “No” when asked “Should the NFTs be transferable?“. This will make the NFTs of that collection Soulbound and therefore non-transferable. Otherwise, if you click “Yes”, they will be regular NFTs that can be transferred and traded in the secondary market. Popularity of SoulBound Tokens has grown over the past months in fields like Art, Gaming, DAO governance, and many others. It can be used, for instance, as a non-dilutive way of rewarding artists’ communities or as a certificate for a completed course.

### Description

* **Short Description:** give a short description of the artwork, which will appear at your Collection Page. This page is where collectors will arrive to collect your digital asset.
* &#x20;**Long Description:** you can add here a more comprehensive description of the project.
* **Tags:** Here you can add a selection of words which help categorise your collection. Some examples are: photography, comics, sport, paintings, digital assets, ... This will help your project get discovered if people search for your tags!

### Media

<figure><img src="/files/cRU7M0sXiGwYHdlTHawy" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* **Collection page media:** give your prospective Collectors a flavour of what your Collection will look like! Upload some samples of your artwork here. You can structure the artwork into media 'blocks', to customise your collection page any way you like.
* **Thumbnail image:** this is the image/animation to be displayed for Collectors as an icon for your Collection if they are looking at it from the Collector dashboard. It is also the Collection icon you will see from your Creator Dashboard.
* **Header image:** this is the banner image which will cover your Collection Page and minting site. 1400x400 ideal size

### **Artist details**

Time to tell the world a bit more about yourself! Note: if you have already entered your artist details in your profile page, these will automatically populate here. The Artists details in your profile and Collection page will automatically sync upon saving.

### **Social media**

How can people contact you, or find out the latest updates about your project? Add your Collection’s social media details here.&#x20;

**Next: Artwork**

I already have my artwork ready: [take me to the artwork upload page](/tutorials-for-creators/drops-and-airdrops/artwork/artwork-upload-your-work)

I would like to generate my artwork using layers: [take me to the generative collection page](/tutorials-for-creators/drops-and-airdrops/artwork/artwork-generative-collection)

# Artwork

Choose your Artwork for your drop on Fair.xyz

When uploading your artwork to Fair.xyz, you have two options:

1. My artwork is ready to go: [upload your artwork directly](/tutorials-for-creators/drops-and-airdrops/artwork/artwork-upload-your-work)
2. I want to build a generative collection: [build your Generative Collection with us](/tutorials-for-creators/drops-and-airdrops/artwork/artwork-generative-collection)

{% hint style="info" %}
A **Generative Collection** generally implies that the Collection has been generated with some form of automation. In the context of our Generative Collection Interface, it is generated through the automated combination of image layers (*traits*), which you can design using your favourite editor (Photoshop, Figma etc.)
{% endhint %}

# Artwork: Upload your work

Choose your Artwork for your drop on Fair.xyz: Uploading

If you already have your artwork ready, uploading it is very simple! You'll need two things:

1. The artwork (duh!) - up to 10,000 files, one file per art piece
2. (Optional) Metadata - the data that describes each of your art pieces (more on that below)

### **Artwork**

All you need to do to have your artwork ready for upload is to put it all together into a **zip file**. That's it! We'll show you how below:

**How to compress into a zip file (Mac)**

Step 1: select the all the art pieces you would like to upload

Step 2: right-click, and click on 'Compress'

![](/files/5QnsIKbd0WgRsx1fIezJ)

The resulting file will usually be called '*Archive.zip*' - this is the file you need to do upload.

**How to compress into a zip file (Windows)**

Step 1: select the all the art pieces you would like to upload

Step 2: right-click, and click on 'Compress'

![](/files/26piktaJeFVqzjGQAjIa)

Step 3: select the extension to *.zip*

This will create a file with a *.zip* extension, which is the one you will need to upload.

### Metadata (optional)

You may want to add some additional data that informs collectors about each of your individual art pieces. This is called *metadata*, and will be displayed on secondary marketplaces. Example:

![](/files/62CW1mOF4pJudNAeyafb)

In the example above, we call *'Background'* a *trait*, and *'Spiral'* an *attribute*. Your Metadata can be *anything*, it does not need to necessarily describe the image! It could be information about when or where the NFT was created, the name of the artist, or any other piece of information you think is relevant to your collection. In order to add Metadata, all you need to do is upload a *.csv* file with the following sample structure:

| filename | Name      | Description                 | Background | Accessory  |
| -------- | --------- | --------------------------- | ---------- | ---------- |
| 1.jpeg   | Ser Moody | Ser Moody is a moody person | Blue       | Earring    |
| 2.jpeg   | Ser Happy | Ser Happy is a happy person |            | Headphones |
| 3.jpeg   | Ser Sad   | Ser Sad is a sad person     | Yellow     | T-shirt    |

* **filename (compulsory):** this helps us understand which NFT you are describing from your uploads - the row values should be the name of the file for the NFT you are referring to
* **Name (compulsory):** if you'd like to give your NFTs unique names - this is where they go!
* **Description (optional):** describe your NFT
* **Background/Eyes (optional):** these are the *traits* of your NFTs. You can have as many trait columns as you'd like, and you can leave row values blank for the NFTs that don't have that specific trait. You can have duplicate columns if, for example, a trait such as '*Accessory*' can have multiple attributes for a single NFT

{% hint style="warning" %}
Do not add more than 1 column for each of filename, name and description, as it may otherwise cause unexpected behaviour
{% endhint %}

You can create a *.csv* file by creating a table like the one above on any standard spreadsheet software such as Excel and then exporting it to *.csv* format:

![](/files/jm9enAEsj3gC2oNlGHiI)

# Artwork: Generative Collection

If you have already uploaded your artwork, you can go straight to the next page (Deployment)

### **What is a Generative Collection?**

A Generative Collection generally implies that the collection has been generated with some form of automation. In the context of our Generative Collection Interface, it is generated through the automated combination of image layers (*traits*), which you can design using your favourite editor (Photoshop, Figma etc.):

![](/files/GFxycT4EgKbXTWgN6CUJ)

In the example above, the resulting image for *Rebel #1855* was generated by combining traits '*Background*', '*Mouth*', '*Headwear*', and so on. You can have many different types within each trait (for example, this specific image has the '*Spiral*' *Background*, but another image may have the '*Beige*' *Background*). Individual types of trait (such as *Spiral* for *Background*, *Tongue Out* for *Mouth* etc.) are called *Attributes*.&#x20;

The Fair.xyz Generative Collection Interface allows you to use the design your Generative Collection by automatically combining the Attributes you have designed, in order to create unique pieces without need for manual work. Let's learn how!

We've prepared a useful video walkthrough to guide you through the process - you can watch it, or skip right to the steps below:

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?ab_channel=Fairxyz&v=iuQHWuDQqVc>" %}

### **Organising your traits**

First, organise your *Attributes* into *Trait* folders. This allows us understand how to best handle the *Traits* once we go into editing your collection (more on that below) and helps in the automation of the process:

![](/files/JkYmuRrNB9nzmP2D4i4X)

As can be seen above, *bodies*, for example, will be the *Trait*, and *Alien*, *Fluffy*, *Human* etc. will be the *Attributes* for that trait.

Next, you need to 'compress' all of the folders into a single *zip* file, which will be what you will upload. The process is the same on Windows and Mac:

Step 1: select your trait folders

Step 2: right-click, and click on 'Compress'. Remember to compress the selection of folders, not a a parent folder containing all of the subfolders.

![](/files/aiYyRlFOBQvA3HWoqrxu)

{% hint style="warning" %}
It is important that there are no subfolders within your folders - otherwise the upload will fail.
{% endhint %}

The resulting file will usually be called '*Archive.zip*' on Mac (Windows will have a different *.zip* name) - this is the file you need to do upload. Now onto the fun part!

### Ordering your traits

Once you have uploaded your zip file, the Generator will get to work. First, let's set the order of appearance of our traits - the bottom row should be the last layer to appear (e.g. a background), the top row should be the frontmost layer to appear. You can order the layers by drag-and-dropping:

![](/files/Ai9MVncJHYY8RegdmPvX)

### Setting rarities

The *rarity* of an attribute determines how often it will appear in your collection.

You may wish for some of them to be more scarce (high rarity), or more common (low rarity). You can toggle rarities using the rarity bars for each attribute. You can also toggle the rarity at a 'trait level' - for example, if your NFTs can have accessories, you may not wish for accessories to be present across all NFTs.&#x20;

You may also wish to make certain attributes completely unique, and selectively place them on customised NFTs further down the line - simply click 'Reserve for 1-of-1' - they will not automatically appear on your collection, and you'll be able to manually edit them in to your desired NFTs in a couple of steps.

{% hint style="info" %}
A 1-of-1 is an NFT that has been created as a customised and unique edition, with some or all attributes being completely unique to that NFT.
{% endhint %}

### Setting rules

Rules are an easy way of telling the Generative Collection Interface that you wish for certain *Attributes* to *always* combine with one another, or the opposite, for them to *never* combine with one another. Simply choose the *Attributes* you wish to set a rule for, and click '*Must Combine With*' or '*Cannot Combine With*' based on what you need. Once you're happy with that rule, simply click 'Save'.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can have multiple rules across a single collection

You can select multiple Attributes on the right-side panel to follow the rule with the Attribute on the left-side panel
{% endhint %}

### 1-of-1s

Once you hit 'Next' from the Rules page, you'll be able to view your full collection. By hovering over any NFT, you will see two options:

![](/files/K7Y399JEXlfOwnZNohNJ)

* **Reroll:** reroll allows you to automatically generate a new set of traits for that given NFT if you are unhappy with its current look
* **Edit:** allows you to manually edit an NFT. We can use this tool to design your 1-of-1s! To manually edit your NFT, just click on the Trait you'd like to edit, and choose your 1-of-1 Attribute. Hit 'Save Changes' when you're done - and that's it! That's your 1-of-1 designed

# Scheduling

Schedule your drop on Fair.xyz

**Getting started**

* Use the "Schedule" tab on the left hand side of the screen. This section sits between "Artwork" and "Deploy".

<figure><img src="/files/am5NbahzRXs3NdEGLWOl" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Things to keep in mind**

* There will be a counter in your tab which specifies how many NFTs are yet to be allocated to a specific drop in the schedule: *'x NFTs remaining'* - this number will update as you add/remove/modify any drops. You cannot go over this number when allocating drops, and you must have allocated all existing NFTs to drops before you can save your change (i.e. the number should go down to *0 NFTs remaining*).
* The drops must be in chronological order, and with minimum time requirements between them, which the UI will specify when you try adding a stage.
* All artwork from a given stage in your drop schedule will automatically be moved to the next stage if it **is not sold.**
* You can update everything about a future stage, or even remove it - but you cannot delete a stage once it has started

### **Creating stages**

* Click on "Add Stage" which will prompt you to begin designing your stages.

<figure><img src="/files/yNNaIKwBqloBD9B097bL" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

* As you add information to your specific stage, a preview will be shown in "Stage Summary" on the right. Once you click "Add," you will be brought back to the Launch Schedule, where your stages will appear in sequential order. Continue this process until satisfied.

{% hint style="info" %}
Clicking on **'Remaining Supply'** means that all NFTs will be on sale during your selected stage
{% endhint %}

* You are able to add both Public Sale stages (where anyone can buy) or Allowlist Only stages (where only a specified list of users can mint during that particular stage". For more specific information on Allowlists, click [here](/tutorials-for-creators/drops-and-airdrops/conditions-to-buy).

# Conditions to Buy

Add Conditions to Buy for your drop on Fair.xyz

Conditions to Buy enables users to create minting requirements for collectors. They are located under 'View Advanced Settings' when you click on 'Create A New Stage'.&#x20;

{% hint style="info" %}
This feature is new, so will not be available on collections created before 14th of March. If you would like to use Conditions to Buy, you'll have to restart your collection.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="/files/sW6t4bXHtILQqXuGFGes" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can scroll through the list of Conditions to Buy, which include Passcodes, NFT Ownership, Customised Allowlists and Twitter Conditions.

# Deployment

Deploy your own smart contract on Fair.xyz

Finally here! It's time to deploy your collection. Deployment is done in 2 steps:

### **Step 1: decentralising your metadata**

**What does metadata decentralisation mean?**

As it stands today, the data for most of the services you use is stored in the centralised servers of companies such as Amazon, Google or Microsoft. In practice, this works great - they tend to be reliable, with little or no downtime, and, well, they've stuck around for long enough that you don't need to worry about them disappearing tomorrow with all of your data!

For NFTs, and more broadly in Web3, we like to think deeper, given that the metadata which has most of the information related to an NFT has to be stored *somewhere*. We want it to be stored somewhere as secure and immutable (cannot change) as possible.

What would happen if, say, tomorrow one of these companies were to go bust? Who would maintain their servers? Where does your data go? Or, even simpler, what if the person whose NFT collection I bought stopped paying their monthly storage bills to one of these companies, or edited/deleted the data altogether? This is where metadata decentralisation comes into play.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Decentralised metadata** is permanent and frozen in place, stored across multiple endpoints, and cannot be edited or taken down - even by the creator of the data.
{% endhint %}

For example, [this image](https://ipfs.io/ipfs/bafybeidlh7egji6zb7yaldzvrvslwtvfbziwb6vha4osqcft5dbxfnb36a) of the Fair.xyz logo is currently stored on IPFS, a decentralised file system. We can't take it down, we can't edit it, and it is currently stored across multiple, unrelated, distributed locations. This kind of behaviour minimises counter-party risk in data relating to NFTs.

**Decentralising your metadata**

Up until this point in your Collection building, the Collection metadata has lived within Fair.xyz's Amazon servers. That's great, but now it's time to decentralise it so you never have to worry about counter-party risk with respect to us! All you have to do is click **'Decentralise Metadata'**. That's it. We'll do the rest.

This process may take a bit of time - depending on how big your collection is. Sit back and make yourself a coffee, we'll send you an email as soon as your metadata is ready.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Decentralising your artwork means you can no longer edit it - you will only be able to view it
{% endhint %}

### Step 2: deploy your collection

It's time to launch your smart contract into the network. This will use all of the information you have provided up until this point to get ready your Collection ready for minting. Once you hit 'Deploy', you will be prompted with a transaction request on your wallet provider. These are **gas fees** related to your deployment - Fair.xyz takes **no fee** for deployment, they are paid to the network. Once you confirm the transaction - you're good to go, your collection is deployed and ready for minting!

{% hint style="warning" %}
Some information regarding your Collection will become **immutable** after deployment. That is, it cannot be changed from the point of deployment onwards. Other details, such as the price of each NFT in your collection, will require a small gas fee (of which Fair.xyz takes nothing!) to modify. We will provide you with more details on the interface.
{% endhint %}

# Airdrops

How to do an Airdrop on Fair.xyz

You can use the *'Airdrop'* tab for your collection as a way of sending free NFTs to your collectors, your team or yourself.

{% hint style="info" %}
An **airdrop** is nothing more than a way of sending NFTs to different wallets without them having to pay gas or minting fees
{% endhint %}

For **Airdrop-only** collections this is the way in which NFTs in your collection get minted, as there is no public collection page. For all other collections, this is a great way of engaging with your community by providing freebie NFTs through giveaways, contests and the like.

Using the Airdrop tab is straightforward. Simply input an address you'd like to send an airdrop to and click '*Add Address*'. It will then come up under the 'PENDING AIRDROPS' table. You can add as many individual addresses to the Pending Airdrops table as you'd like before going ahead and sending the Airdrop.

<figure><img src="/files/9aJngJ58RFzXGZgN054t" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Once you have added all the wallets you want to airdrop NFTs to, start selecting them using the white checkbox to the left of each address. **You can only airdrop to 20 wallets at a time**. When you're happy with your selection, click 'SEND'. Successfully airdropped wallets will now appear under the 'AIRDROPPED WALLETS' table.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/Hx8rt6bVUi66BhH0EKeh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Credit Card Payments

How to enable Credit Card Payments

To enable credit card payments, please go through the verification process that you will find on the Profile tab on the platform. After clicking on "Profile" go ahead and click on "Verification", then follow the instructions.

<figure><img src="/files/B1WedzxkbrDBHMSVq3IP" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Do not worry! Your identity is not exposed to your Collectors (or anyone else on the platform) and your verification data is only communicated to and stored in Onfido's secure server. When you enter your First and Last Name on the Fair.xyz UI, that data is being stored solely on your local machine, and not on our servers (you can check this by accessing the same tab on another device!).

When the verification process is done, credit card payments will be automatically enabled for all your collections. So there's nothing else you need to do on your end!

# Managing your Collection

Manage your drop on Fair.xyz

Once you have deployed your Smart Contract, you will notice that the '*Deploy*' tab is now substituted by a '*Contract*' tab. From this new page, you will be able to edit certain Smart Contract-related features, such as the reveal date, price or royalties, of your Collection.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Modifying certain properties of your Collection (such as changing the sale price for your NFTs) requires transacting with the Blockchain through your Wallet, and will cost a small gas fee to the network
{% endhint %}

![](/files/oPmpTx3tdIB5NbbnNpzn)

Once you have edited all your values, hit 'Save Changes'. A transaction should pop-up on your wallet, asking you to confirm it in order to apply the changes to your Collection. Hit 'Confirm', et voila! Your Smart Contract's data will be modified on the Blockchain.

### Setting up your Collection on OpenSea

All Collections launched with Fair.xyz can, of course, be integrated into any secondary sale NFT marketplace. In this section, we will go through how to set up your Collection page on the most popular NFT marketplace for secondary sales: OpenSea.

**Step 1:** get your contract address. This can be found under the *Contract* tab of your collection. Simply click on '*View on Etherscan*' - you will find the Contract address at the top of the page, as shown in the image below.

<figure><img src="/files/Y1xuI8NAcMOuwCUdivSl" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Step 2:** OpenSea automatically recognises your Collection and Smart Contract *as soon as your collection has at least 1 mint*. Once your collection has one mint or more, simply paste the contract address you got from Step 1 and paste it on the search bar. Your Collection should appear.

**Step 3:** to edit your collection page, simply click on the 3 dots at the right of the page's header and click on 'Edit', as seen on the image below:

<figure><img src="/files/WslU2qIsoPbppAbodT1n" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You'll be taken to OpenSea's Collection editing page - customise your collection as freely as you want here!

### Setting Secondary Sale Royalties

One of the powerful things about selling your artwork in the form of NFTs is that blockchain traceability allows you to claim royalties of any further sale of your artwork in perpetuity. As we discussed on the [Collection Details page](/tutorials-for-creators/drops-and-airdrops/collection-details), certain marketplaces can read your royalty information straight off your Collection's Smart Contract. However, other marketplaces will require you manually setting royalties for your collection with them. Whilst you may have done this already in the prior step (importing your Collection to OpenSea), below we will show you how to set royalties on both OpenSea and LooksRare, the most popular NFT secondary sale marketplaces.

**OpenSea**

**Step 1:** Visit the '*My Collections*' page [here](https://opensea.io/collections).&#x20;

**Step 2:** Hover over the Collection for which you'd like to set the Royalties for, click on the 3 dots which will appear, and click on '*Edit*'.&#x20;

**Step 3:** Scroll down to 'Creator Earnings' The number here is the percentage of any secondary sales you will receive in the form of royalties within the platform. We usually recommend somewhere between 2.5-10%!

**Step 4:** once you are happy with your Royalty Percentage value, scroll down a bit more and click '*Submit Changes*'

**LooksRare**

LooksRare supports the EIP-2981 standard, meaning they should be able to read your Royalty percentage straight off your Smart Contract! 🎉 (this is the value which you can see on your Fair.xyz Creator Dashboard).

# Discord Conditions To Buy

How to do a Discord Condition To Buy

[Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz) has many ‘Conditions to Buy’ which you can add to your collections. These conditions will give you bespoke control on who and who can’t mint your NFTs.

One category of these conditions is built around “Discord Roles”.

This means that you can add a Condition on who can mint your NFT based on what role they have, or don’t have, within your Discord community.

In order to implement this condition, you’ll need two key pieces of information from Discord:

* Your Server ID
* Your role(s) ID(s)

Let’s show you have to find these.

### Enabling Developer Mode

1. Open Discord and log in to your account.
2. Click on the User Settings icon in the bottom left corner of the Discord app window. It looks like a gear.

<figure><img src="/files/SW6AZhNpZ56V9XrKmlAQ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Scroll down to the "Advanced" section and look for the option that says "Developer Mode." Toggle the switch to turn it on.

<figure><img src="/files/GXB7SMJru7DYRSIGKrho" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

‘Developer mode' is now activated. We can go ahead and find our Server ID.

### Locating and adding Server ID to [Fair.xyz](http://Fair.xyz)

To find and copy your Server ID, simply do the following:

1. Go to the server for which you want to find the ID.
2. Right-click on the server name in the server list on the left-hand side of the screen.
